You Gave Me Courage You gave me courage & I commend you, For as I watched you I learned what I needed to do. You will never realize what you did for me, I was losing my mind & had thoughts to flee. I felt so helpless & all alone, A better friend than you ... I have never known. Your kind eyes, touching words & sweet smiles, Gave me the courage to stay beside Joey with great style. The support you gave me with the touch of your hand, Kept me standing on my feet when I was holding onto my sanity by a strand. Watching you touch Joey with your special tender loving care, Made me stand up tall & do everything I could do for him so he would not be scared. I tried to comfort Joey by singing softly in his ear, Familiar songs to ease & to take away his every fear. For it was you who gave me the courage to stay with Joey day & night, You pulled me through a long dark hazy tunnel by always being near to ease my fright. Without you, I don't know what kind of mommy I would have been, Thankfully, I will never know because you showed me how to forget the set backs & push forward for "the win". The smile that I sometimes had to force on my face, Put there so he would know he was in a safe place. Holding back all the tears that threaten to creep out, You helped me stay strong & steady & not let him see me pout. All the long hot showers when I cried & cried & cried, BEGGING God to take ME right then & there ...leaving Joey seizure free & healthy so he could take each new day with great strides. You gave me the strength to do my very best for him, I am forever grateful to you for keeping me strong when he was struggling between life & death ...as my hopes were growing very dim. You should feel proud of yourself, for I took your lead & passed your kindness & smiles on to lots of others, Families who needed what you gave me, especially the children in PICU's ... father's & mother's. You gave me the courage to take one day at a time, When my life had no certainty, no rhythm, no rhyme. by: Sandy Lora, April 2000 Dedicated to the doctors & nurses (you know who you are) who helped me & hugged me when I was in desperate need!! Thank you!! |
