| On October 13, 2002, Joey Lora met his rock and roll super hero - Uncle Kracker at Taste of DC thanks to 104.1 FM (WWZZ)! Joey Lora, age 4, has had 5 brain surgeries to compensate for tremendous epileptic seizures that he was having on a daily basis since he was only 9 months old. Joey's 4th surgery resulted in a hemispherectomy, the removal of half of his brain, to finally reduce the severity of the seizures. Doctors at Children's National Medical Center said that it would be amazing if Joey could walk, talk or even do simple motor skills that we take for granted. Joey has beaten the odds! He walks, he talks, he sings, in fact Joey started pre-school last year! So what is the connection to Uncle Kracker? Joey used to listen to his mom, Sandy work out to Uncle Kracker's CD with the song "Follow Me" on it. Funny, all of Sandy's working out with Joey near by has led him to learn all the words to the song "Follow Me". On Sunday, October 13th, with the help of 104.1 FM's Mike Edwards and Sean Sellers, Joey got a surprise to kick off his 4th birthday, which was October 14th. Joey met Uncle Kracker backstage at Taste of DC. The two exchanged CD's and autographs. Joey sang "Follow Me" for Uncle Kracker, his road manager and a group of on-lookers from 104.1. FM. The fun continued as Joey and family watched Uncle Kracker from back stage and were thrilled as Uncle Kracker dedicated his new song to Joey. It was truly a day Joey and his family will never forget. Thanks Uncle Kracker and WWZZ 104.1 FM ! You ROCK! |
