I know a little boy, and Joey is his name,
He's nothin' but a joy and life is his claim to fame…
He's been through some hard times,
many more than me and you…
Five surgeries he's had before the age of two.

Little Joey is a miracle sent from God above
An angel only two years old here to teach us how to love

His family's made of steel, this story will be told.

If you ask for "Mr. Righty", he will grab his hand…
If you place him on his feet, he will try to stand
Why, we walked down the hallway just the other day
Me, Joey, and his Mama~you could hear the nurses say:

Little Joey is a miracle sent from God above

The other day was Joey's birthday: he turned a ripe old age of two…
But he's walked a hundred miles, lived longer than me and you.
So I made a birthday wish as I sat down to pray
That little Joey would sing this song to his own kids one day,

For when I was two years old, I taught people how to love
I had an iron will that got me to this day,
My family was made of steel and I could hear them say:

The first physical therapist to work with Joey, two days after the hemispherectomy at Children's, was Kendra Elmore. She fell in love with Joey and vice versa. She was out running and came up with this poem about Joey. The next day she came over and sang "Joey's Song" to him as his 2nd birthday present. It's incredible.
